A Special Evening in Memory of Julian Sands

Just back from our New York production at the Katonah Classic Stage:

Applicant

Directed by Marilyn Fox and Myrna Gawryn

The Dumb Waiter

Directed by Marilyn Fox; Original Stagging by Elina de Santos

Harnessing the flair of an iconic playwright during the birth of the Absurdist movement, Pacific Resident Theatre delights in welcoming home a pair of short, meaty, dark comedies by Harold Pinter: Applicant and The Dumbwaiter. A retrospective of two early one acts — a sketch that has rarely been seen, and the other arguably his very best short play, both written in the late 50’s and first produced in the early 60’s, they will run in tandem for 80 minutes of pure, if not sometimes absurdly baffling, entertainment.

*Saturday’s performances will be in tribute of Julian Sands.*

In 2012, Sands brought his remarkable “A Celebration of Harold Pinter” to PRT. It subsequently toured and went to New York City. This production is dedicated to the memory of Julian Sands… a friend to Harold Pinter, a friend to Pacific Resident Theatre, and a friend to all who bring quality work to the stage.

Jason Downs

Jason Downs (GUS/MR. LAMB) Bringing this show to the stage has been a labor of love since before the pandemic — born of both his love for Pinter’s work and his love for Anthony Foux. Originally slated to go up in April of 2020, Anthony and Jason decided to keep the play alive by continuing to rehearse and run lines via Zoom during the entire pandemic until the play finally opening in Sept of 2022. But the Pinter/KCS connection begins farther back, in 2016, when Jason was cast as Lenny in Pinter’s The Homecoming alogside Anthony Foux and Trent Dawson under Marilyn Fox as Artistic Director for Pacific Resident Theatre. So basically, what you’re about to witness is the result of a long and lustrous love fest. It is Jason’s delight and honor to play these roles with such a wonderful cast and crew. Deepest gratitude to all who have made this performance possible. Other credits include all four NCIS incarnations, Days of our LivesThe Goldberg’sMuppets MayhemHairspray, and recent best actor nom (Barcelona Film Fest) for the upcoming Guillotine.

Anthony Foux

Anthony Foux (BEN) The originally scheduled opening date for the Dumb Waiter — April 10, 2020. We all know what happened next. For more than two years Jason and I ran lines 3 times a week; week in and week out. As someone whose background is in finance and real estate, I have been amazed and inspired by the dedication shown by Jason for his craft. We have shared a mutual love of The Dumb Waiter, and even after 3 years we still get surprised by the genius of Harold Pinter. I have been a company member at PRT for over 15 years and have been in several productions, including The Homecoming and Touch of a Poet. I am beyond excited and grateful to everyone involved in extending the life of this play and bringing it to the east coast; to KCS!
