Apparently, last week’s tree did not reach many of you. I sent it on October 12th but Judy Trest, our webmaster, took down the server for emergency repairs. Says Judy: “The PRT Tree should be back up and running now. There may still exist some problems within your Providers that will not allow some of you to receive email messages from this list. I am still working that issue though it’s a slow one to resolve. As this list has been rebuilt some of the email addresses may be out of date. Please let everyone know that the list is up and running and if they aren’t getting their email from the PRT Tree to notify me. Thanks for your patience as we upgraded and took care of some severe hacker problems.” So this week’s tree is a odd one; the item intended for this week follows and, then in italics, the items from last week.

Co-op Series Pitch Meeting: Co-op series shows, shows produced by the co-op committee, are chosen from pitch meetings to which the entire company is invited. This season the the two co-op series productions were The Time of Your Life and Macbeth, which will open this Thursday. This coming Saturday, October 18th, is the time to pitch your great idea for the 2009 co-op series. The pitch session will start at 10AM in 703. The purpose of the co-op series is to create work that is a wide open field for company participation and to give life to the “big dreams” that might seem daunting to a single producer. Projects must be able to be cast entirely from the membership but should not already have a cast attached. Shows do not need to have a director or producer attached either. Great ideas are all that are needed. Those who cannot make it in person can e-mail their pitch to Tracie Lockwood at tlockwood@recreation.ucla.edu or you can send a friend to the meeting to pitch on your behalf. Everyone that shows up has a voice and a vote in the selection process for the series shows.

Classes start very soon; contact Anna Garduno at annagarduno@gmail.com for details.

Dear Company Members:
In my commitment to Transparency, Communication and Love between the Company, the Staff and the Board, I want to let you know that the communication line is open to your input, suggestions and,of course, your commitment and participation.
The Board looks to the Committee heads to liaison with the Co-Op Rep to the Board, so that we may be up to speed on the activities of the Company.
The Board will, in turn keep you informed.
To that end, we will be creating several fund raisers during the year.
TWO READINGS: December 6th- Matinee and December 7th in the evening.
STRINGS SNAPPING is a play about the Anton Chekhov’s life, death, and
Chekhov, the man, as he copes with tuberculosis and deals with Olga
plays, his demanding sister Masha, and contemporaries like Gorky and
ANDY WOLK
Andy Wolk worked on staff at Manhattan Theatre Club for many years where STRINGS SNAPPING was first workshopped. He has written or directed plays there and at LaMama, Lincoln Center, Ensemble Studio, and Actors Theatre of Louisville among many others. In film and television, he has been nominated for the Writers Guild Award three times winning it once for the PBS film NATICA JACKSON starring Michelle Pfeiffer. He has written and directed many films for features, cable and TV including CRIMINAL JUSTICE (HBO), THE DEFENDERS (SHOWTIME), DELIBERATE INTENT (FX), the Emmy-winning FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON (HBO) and THE CHRISTMAS SHOES (CBS) along with episodes of THE SOPRANOS, NYPD BLUE, THE PRACTICE (Humanitas Award) LINCOLN HEIGHTS (DGA nomination) and many others.
We will be selling tickets at the price of $25.00. and on behalf of the Board, I am requesting your help with the sale of these tickets.
There will be NO EXPENSES, as Bill Lithgow will create the graphic, Jen and Aron are using it for sending out notices, Tracie Lockwood is making copies of the scripts and donating them, and food and champagne will be donated as well.
I therefore urge all of you to promote subscriptions, cultivate donors and participate fully–so that the community will continue to applaud YOU, our extraordinary actors, on our three stages.
As I have said on numerous occasions; Some theaters have a beautiful, luxurious frame–but a disappointing painting. PRT has a mediocre “Frame” but YOU, the Company, are the painting that is a Masterpiece.
With all our admiration and support in the coming year.
Eliane Gans,Chair PRT Board of Directors

Keith Stevenson says of the new PRT Film Component, “I’m going to have to postpone the 48-hour film fest for a few weeks. I had originally scheduled it for October 17th-19th, but I’ll be out of town for work. Also, I have only received one (1) script. So, there’s that, too. We’ll most likely do it sometime in November. Send me scripts! You don’t have to have Final Draft or even make it a rigid screenplay form. Write it in nail polish for all I care. I know there are ideas out there. If you write it, we will make it (if it’s under 7 minutes, that is.)”
